Sometimes I marvel at how we do it. It truly does take two full-time staff and over a hundred volunteers to keep the AGMC in full swing — and this is one of the busiest times of the year for us.Russ Bralley, our interim ED, is a gem and is going great work in the community to keep the AGMC on track with our supporters. For those of you who are season ticket-holders, you will soon be hearing from US about reserving your seats, rather than having to call in yourself. For those of you give generously to the chorus, you’ll be getting more in return — a thank you letter is only the beginning.
This week marks the third year in a row we have hosted the Big Wig Party. It’s an event that’s not to be missed, especially in our new venue on Miami Circle. Completely member-driven, this event continues to grow in size and scope. We don’t even sing at this event. Just lots of outrageous wigs and fabulous costumes. In just over a month, the chorus will make its first-ever appearance on the campus of Oglethorpe University in the Conant Performing Arts Center. “Divas 2: Opera Revisited” is a stunning sequel to our first opera concert presented in 2008. It’s not music we do very often — it takes a great deal of work to bring it together and our members are giving it 100%. You don’t want to miss the boys as they take on some very masculine roles: sailors, toreadors, blacksmiths, soldiers, hunters, generals and priests (okay, the last one maybe not so much). We promise a spectacular opening and a rousing finish (see the program in the column to the right). It’s some of history’s finest music and is sure to strike the fancy of opera queens and novices alike. Check out our video promo here. Way cool.
Now go beat that wig!
