February 16, 2012 — Renowned for its own exceptional performances, the Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is collaborating with the Atlanta area’s best — and best-loved — cabaret performers and the LGBT community’s own DJ Melissa Carter for Encore: A Night of Music, the AGMC’s annual gala event. Building upon an extremely successful first gala featuring Jennifer Holliday, this year’s catered event will be held Sunday, April 22 at The Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Midtown Atlanta.
“We can’t wait for this year’s Encore gala,” said Ann Pinyan, AGMC board chair. “This has become our annual signature event supporting the ongoing community service of the chorus, and we are confident it will be an evening to remember and the premier event that will surely be the talk of the town.”
Encore: A Night of Music begins with a special reception for AGMC patrons, featuring a hosted bar and the melodic piano stylings of Guyton Maurice, named Best Male Musician by Southern Voice readers in 2009.
The evening continues at 6:30 with a hosted bar, plated dinner, silent auction and high-energy entertainment by many of Atlanta’s saluted musical cabaret artists.
Encore is being produced by former Broadway performer and award-winning New York cabaret artist Robert Ray. He is well-known for his musical tribute to fellow Georgian Johnny Mercer that was twice featured at Georgia’s Music Hall of Fame. Ray’s production of the 75th Anniversary of Atlanta’s Famed Fox Theatre was a huge hit in 2005, with a one-day attendance of 15,000.
Special guest host Melissa Carter will also add to the stellar evening. Carter is a highly regarded and entertaining Atlanta radio DJ, Huffington Post blogger and Georgia Voice columnist. She has served as grand marshal in both Atlanta’s Gay Pride and Provincetown’s Carnival Parade and appeared on-stage in such hits as The Vagina Monologues and Shear Madness. Carter is the founder of the Melissa Carter Transplant Fund at Piedmont Hospital.
The Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center is offering special overnight prices for Encore attendees. Contact the hotel at (404) 838-2100 and mention the AGMC Encore event.
