Being a part of the AGMC

Artistic Vision.

The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus aspires to be recognized not only as one of the finest male choral ensembles on the globe, but also as a leader in the realm of social change and the betterment of all people. These goals are evidenced by the presentation of empowering performances throughout metro Atlanta, the state of Georgia, the southeastern U.S. and in other countries where singers continue to deliver powerful messages of equality for all humankind.

By establishing a highly effective infrastructure that empowers, emboldens and illuminates the talent, skill and diversity of its membership, the Chorus strives to create a unique and collaborative working environment among its members, demonstrating how people of different ethnicities, religions, education, belief systems and sexual orientation can come together to create a safe, embracing and productive community for all.

The Atlanta Gay Men’s Chorus is committed to sharing our love of music, our joy of performing and our dedication to excellence. It is through this artistic vision that the Chorus will continue to change not only the way other people think about gay persons, but the way they think about themselves.

Diversity Statement.

The Atlanta Gay Men's Chorus celebrates the human diversity found in our local and global communities. We seek to promote and value diversity. Groups that are diverse in age, race, gender identity, sexual orientation, ethnicity, physical/mental ability, and perspective are proven to be more successful groups. We strive to build and nurture a culture where inclusiveness is a reflex, not an initiative. We want an environment where there is a deep sense of pride, passion, and belonging that transcends roles and unifies us in our shared commitment to excellence, innovation, and social responsibility. We know that different ideas, perspectives, and backgrounds create a stronger and more creative environment that delivers better results. We will work to demonstrate this commitment to diversity in all Chorus activities.

Why I Joined the AGMC

"I was in need of a solid community where my blackness, queerness, and fabulosity would be validated, celebrated and connect me to other beautiful humans whom understand the very truth of what it means to create a safe space." - Blaine Porter

“I was very involved in the arts - chorus, theatre, musicals, symphony - until I went to medical school in 1989. Then that all stopped. I retired in October of 2022 and knew I had to do something to scare myself -- in a good way! My very good friend JD had been trying for years to get me to audition and I just didn't have the time until now.  I am very grateful to be a member and hope that my abilities will continue to improve and make you all proud to have me!" - Tim McDonald

"I’m always singing, and one of my customers happened to be in the AWC. She heard me singing Lizzo, joined in, and then directed me to the AGMC. It was over from there! I sent something like five different emails to apply for an audition slot because I was tooooo excited to be singing with people, on top of being a gay men's chorus!" - Dywahn Bethea

"I joined to find a musical home!" - Dick Johnson

"Choral Music and Musical Theater have played a vital role throughout my life. When my husband and partner of 23 years passed away, I was floundering to find a path forward without him. I auditioned virtually during the early COVID pandemic. Embracing music brought joy back into my world. When friends came to see my first holiday concert with AGMC they were amazed with the show and told me how happy they were to see me smile again, finding happiness. AGMC is filled with talent and so much more." - Don Deyo

"The AGMC was the first queer community to welcome me with open arms. I am grateful for the opportunity to sing with people who are not only talented, but loving, accepting, and inclusive." - Gellin Hughes
